SUMMARY:Understanding Diabetes: A Lifestyle Approach to Insulin Resistance
DESCRIPTION:A Discussion with Dr. Rashim Gupta\, MD\nFacilitated by Tom Everts\, PA-C \nWhat: A free community class on diabetes and insulin resistance — what’s actually happening in the body\, and what helps.\n When: September 24\, 2026\, 6:00–7:00 pm\n Where: Wrong Way’s River Lodge\, 191 Amboy Rd\, Asheville\, NC 28806 (or join live on YouTube)\n Who: Open to the community\, in person or virtually — no cost to attend. \nDiagnosed with diabetes or prediabetes — or just trying to understand what insulin resistance actually means for your health? You’re not alone\, and there’s more you can do about it than a glucose number suggests. \nJoin Dr. Rashim Gupta for a practical look at diabetes and insulin resistance\, covering six lifestyle factors that influence blood sugar control: \n\nThe gut-diabetes connection — how digestive health shapes insulin response\nSleep and its direct effect on blood sugar regulation\nStress management and its hormonal impact on glucose levels\nNutrition principles that support stable blood sugar\nMovement and exercise as a treatment tool\, not just a suggestion\nCommunity support and why it matters for long-term success\n\nThere’s no cost to attend\, but space in person is limited — RSVP to reserve your seat and submit questions ahead of time. Joining virtually? No RSVP needed — just tune in live on our YouTube channel. \n[RSVP Now] \n[Watch Live on YouTube]\nAbout the Speaker\n Dr. Rashim Gupta is a board-certified endocrinologist who has built her career around a simple but important question: how do we make it easier for people to actually manage diabetes in their everyday lives? She is the founder of MettaH\, a program that pairs medical care with practical support — group visits with an endocrinologist\, glucose monitoring technology\, and personalized nutrition guidance — because she believes good health shouldn’t depend on how much time or money someone has. She also serves as Medical Director for North Carolina’s Medicaid plan\, focused on making sure quality care actually reaches the communities that need it most. Based in Asheville\, Dr. Gupta is deeply committed to compassionate\, judgment-free care for people navigating chronic illness.

SUMMARY:Nature & Forest Therapy Walk
DESCRIPTION:When was the last time you truly slowed down? \n  \nJoin our guided Nature and Forest Therapy walk to unplug and reconnect. This experience focuses on slow movement and sensory awareness to discover nature’s restorative benefits. \nYour guide will offer gentle invitations to help you engage your senses and experience the landscape in a new way. \nForest Therapy stems from Japanese Shinrin-yoku (“forest bathing“)\, which addresses stress and urbanization. Research shows it reduces stress and improves immunity\, a tradition expanded in the U.S. by the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy  integrating elements of mindfulness\, ecotherapy\, psychotherapy\, and wilderness guiding. \nThis Community Event will take place on September 2\, from 9:30 am – 12:30 pm at Asheville Botanical Gardens. The event is open to Integrative Family Medicine members\, and attending is free. However\, this event is limited to 12 seats\, so sign up now to reserve your spot. \nPlease RSVP via this link to attend. \nYour Guide:\nNancy Krisel\, LCSW\, SEP\, is certified through the ANFT as a Nature and Forest Therapy Guide. She adores time outside and sharing the beauty and wonder of the natural world with others. Her love of nature began in childhood. The birds\, alligators\, banana trees and ocean of her native Florida quietly shaped a lifelong knowing: we are not alone here. We are part of a living\, breathing web of life. Asheville has been her home for more than 20 years\, and she continues to discover new trails and wonders in these ancient mountains. \nNancy is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner in Private Practice. She brings a grounded\, compassionate presence to all her work\, characterized by deep listening\, collaboration\, and unconditional positive regard — whether in the therapy room or beneath the trees. \nRSVP via this link to attend.
