SUMMARY:Fundamentals of Chinese Medicine with Dr. Maegan Davis\, L.Ac.\, Dipl.O.M. (NCCAOM)\, RYT
DESCRIPTION:This lecture will give participants an introductory understanding of the history\, physiology\, and philosophies behind Chinese Medicine.  Learn about the meridians\, qi\, and organ systems\, as well as Chinese Medicine’s Taoist influences and how primary techniques such as needling\, cupping\, moxa\, and gua sha are applied to affect change.  \nDr. Davis graduated from Daoist Traditions College of Chinese Medical Arts with a Doctorate in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine (DACM) and completed  state and national licensure. She offers compassionate\, effective\, and personalized care. Each treatment is based on her patient’s unique presentation and may involve various modalities including acupuncture\, herbal medicine\, food therapy\, essential oils\, gua sha\, moxibustion and cupping in a supportive and warm environment. Maegan has also taught yoga for over ten years which informs the way she lives and practices medicine. She teaches weekly yoga classes  as well as monthly workshops featuring yin yoga\, seasonal health\, and acupuncture. Maegan holds a degree in Environmental Studies with a focus in environmental education and sociology. DESCRIPTION:Curious about how to prune fruit trees? Want to give back to your community? Join us for a fun day in the community orchard on Livingston street! We will mulch\, weed\, and prune to help the orchard get ready for the winter.  Asheville GreenWorks will supply tools\, gloves\, refreshments\, and guidance. \nEstablished in 1973\, GreenWorks’s mission is to inspire\, equip\, and mobilize individuals and communities to take care of the places we love to live. They do this by working to clean our local rivers and tributaries\, plant and preserve trees\, and foster community orchards. GreenWorks is the most active volunteer environmental organization in Western North Carolina.  Integrative Family Medicine is dedicated to giving back to our community. SUMMARY:Mountain Medicine Festival\, 2nd Annual
DESCRIPTION:Integrative Family Medicine of Asheville and Wedge at Foundation are hosting the second annual Mountain Medicine Festival\, a community celebration and concert highlighting the health benefits of nature and benefiting local environmental nonprofits. The all ages event will take place on Sunday\, September 15\, from 4:30 pm–6:30 pm at the Wedge at Foundation on Foundry Street. \n“New research confirms the timeless wisdom that our health is inextricably linked with both our natural and social environment. We want to highlight and nurture these relationships to support our community\,” said Dr. Brian Lewis\, MD\, MPH. Dr. Lewis and Dr. Chad Krisel are founders\, owners\, and medical providers at Integrative Family Medicine of Asheville. \nQueen Bee and the Honeylovers (swing jazz) will perform\, and several local environmental nonprofits will staff booths to highlight their advocacy work and volunteer opportunities. The festival is free to attend\, but donations are encouraged. All donations received will be split equally between the featured environmental nonprofits: MountainTrue\, Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy\, Dogwood Alliance\, Conserving Carolina\, and Asheville GreenWorks. \nAbout Integrative Family Medicine of Asheville: The first Direct Primary Care (DPC) clinic in the area\, Integrative Family Medicine of Asheville is a membership-based practice offering personalized\, integrative primary care with a focus on optimizing lifestyle and longer\, low-cost office visits. DESCRIPTION:Growing scientific literature on mindfulness interventions shows great promise for a host of mental and physical health benefits. In this class we will explore the concept of mindfulness\, discuss the current research\, and share ideas for practicing and applying this simple but powerful process. \nScott MacGregor\, MS\, LPC has taught mindfulness at Mission Health Systems\, UNC School of Medicine\, Asheville Fire Department\, VA Medical Center. and Buncombe County Schools. He has trained in mindfulness at UMASS Medical School\, Brown University and with Mindful Schools. As a therapist\, he has worked in behavioral medicine\, substance abuse recovery\, and hospice.
