Melissa was born in Michigan, raised in Arkansas, and considers herself a down-to-earth southern girl with a mid-western twist.
She went to University of Central Arkansas where she earned a Bachelors of Science degree in exercise science with a minor in nutrition. After graduating, she moved to North Carolina and worked on an organic farm before going back to school to obtain a Masters of Science degree in clinical exercise physiology at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. Boone is where she fell in love with the Blue Ridge mountains and her husband, David, a native to the area and an exceptional general contractor and realtor.
After getting married, she attended Emory University School of Medicine where she studied to become a PA. She and her husband wasted no time moving back to the mountains of North Carolina where they feel most at home, fulfilled, and inspired. In 2016 they had their first child, a daughter, who has brought so much joy to their lives. Her presence has further reinforced Melissa’s desire to be a positive role model for living and promoting a healthy lifestyle in the amazing community where she will raise her daughter.
Melissa’s medical interests include women’s health, adolescent health, and the impact of lifestyle on our environment. Her passion is overall wellness through preventative care. She strives to create a safe, comfortable space where you can come with your health concerns and feel both listened to and cared for while reaching your health and well-being goals.
In her free time, Melissa enjoys camping, hiking, Ultimate Frisbee, yoga, gardening, cooking, and spending time with friends and family.
Melissa is delighted to be a part of IFMA and the role her patients allow her to have in bringing health and wellness into their lives. She is excited to be practicing her passion in a community that values healthy living and sustainable lifestyles.
