Primary Care Acupuncture
Drs. Krisel and Lewis have completed the HELMS acupuncture course for physicians offered through the UCLA School of Medicine. The course presents a classical acupuncture approach to primary care and also features contemporary elements developed in the US and France for treatment of pain. The course enables physicians to begin acupuncture treatments in a safe and effective manner for many common ailments. Chinese Medicine is an ancient and comprehensive tradition, and the course is the beginning of a life-long study.
Physicians doing Acupuncture?
We want to honor the tradition of Chinese Medicine and acknowledge that the HELMS course is not the equivalent of a 4 year Chinese Medical School. The 300 hour course focuses on effective acupuncture from Classical Chinese and Contemporary French perspectives and does not cover herbal medicine. We see our role as effectively treating common ailments and providing a bridge for patients that may be interested in Chinese Medical approaches. We will refer and coordinate care with licensed acupuncturists for complex cases and those that might benefit from a comprehensive approach that includes herbal medicine. We will also gladly see patients of local acupuncturists for their medical concerns and testing when needed. We believe that this cooperative approach will provide a better service for the patient while cultivating relationships and understanding between fields.
